Mayor Lightfoot issued a new COVID-19 advisory on Thursday. Among the provisions:

All residents of the City of Chicago are advised to stay at home in response to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city. Residents are advised to only leave home to go to work or school, or for essential needs such as seeking medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, picking up food, or receiving deliveries.

Additionally, residents are strongly advised to:

– Not have guests in their homes unless they are essential workers (home healthcare providers or childcare workers)
– Cancel traditional Thanksgiving celebrations
– Avoid travel

Governor Pritzker said today: “If things don’t take a turn in the coming days, we will quickly reach the point when some form of a mandatory stay-at-home order is all that will be left.” This follows 15,315 new COVID-19 cases reported on Friday, breaking the record for daily cases for the fourth consecutive day.

The City of Chicago has also extended its travel ban to every state surrounding Illinois. There are now 2 levels of states banned. The City is requesting that residents who travel out-of-state quarantine for 14 days. More information on the travel ban can be found at
