The first is an employee in Load Test, 1st shift. This employee was last in the plant on December 11. The second is an employee in 4-Slide, 2nd shift. This employee’s last day at work was December 15. All employees who had potential close contact with these employees have been notified.

Please continue to be vigilant, and wear a mask at all times in the plant.

COVID Sick Days to Carry Over

The CARES Act provided for 10 federally funded sick days to be used in two circumstances:

1. The employee or someone the employee is caring for is subject to a government quarantine order or has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine.
2. The employee is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and is seeking medical attention.

The federal COVID sick days took effect on 4/1/2020 and the federal funding will expire on December 31.

Dudek & Bock has decided to allow employees who have not used all the federal sick days to carry them over into 2021. They may not be used as regular sick days. They are only to be used for the COVID-related situations for which they were intended. They will be paid from Dudek & Bock funds, unless the federal government later provides additional monies.

Employees who already used all 10 federal sick days are not eligible for additional days.

Open Enrollment for Benefits

Open Enrollment has been pushed back later in the month than we anticipated, partly due to COVID-19 complications, and partly because the initial quotes from insurance companies came back with higher rates than we were willing to accept. After significant negotiations, the cost of medical insurance and vision insurance will be exactly the same as last year. The dental insurance cost is increasing slightly (around $2/pay period, depending what coverage you have). We will have the same carriers and plans.

Any employee who is keeping exactly the same insurance, can be automatically enrolled, which will be easy. If you want to add or delete coverage, change the type of coverage (PPO to HMO, or vice versa), change your primary care physician (HMO only), or if you enroll in voluntary life, you will need to go through the computer-based enrollment.

The benefit books will be available next week, in English and in Spanish. In the meantime, for Union employees, you can review the books online.

Mask Use Policy

As the CDC offers new guidance, Dudek & Bock’s mask use policy will mirror the latest CDC recommendations. The following is the mask use Disciplinary Policy currently in effect.

The Dudek & Bock COVID-19 Policy requires employees to wear masks correctly at all times, following current CDC guidelines. No group gatherings are allowed with more than 10 employees. This includes but is not limited to congregating in the locker area, time clock area, in designated smoking areas, etc. Face masks must be worn correctly, covering both nose and mouth.

Dudek & Bock reserves the right to discipline employees’ failure to follow the mask requirement in accordance with the procedures below:

First Violation – Employee will receive a verbal warning from the Supervisor with instruction to the employee for correcting unacceptable practice or behavior.

Second Violation – Employee will receive a written warning from the Supervisor with instruction to the employee for correcting unacceptable practice or behavior.

Third Violation – Employee will receive a written warning from the Supervisor and the employee will immediately be sent home. The employee will not be paid for that day and COVID bonus will be suspended for good. The warning will include instruction to the employee for correcting unacceptable practice or behavior.

Fourth Violation – Employee will receive a written warning from the Supervisor and the employee will immediately be sent home for the remainder of the day and the two following days. The employee will not be paid for three days. The warning will include instruction to the employee for correcting unacceptable practice or behavior

To protect other employees from potential exposure to COVID-19, flagrant and repeated infractions of the mask use policy may necessitate higher levels of discipline up to and including immediate termination of employment. As with standard disciplinary action, disciplinary action associated with failure to follow mask use policy will be removed from an employee’s record twelve (12) months from the date of the occurrence.
